Most people can buy seeds or seedlings to grow plants. But how do we use them correctly? Do you know the terminology for processing herbs into medicines?
– Infuse. Then boil as needed. Boil the roots and bark for 30 minutes to 1 hour and the other parts for 10 minutes. If adding herbs for essential oils, place in a pot after boiling, cover and infuse for 5 minutes. Then strain through a cloth. Add more water as some of the water will boil.
– Pour. Pour in the hot water, cover with a lid, and infuse for 15 minutes. When cool, strain.
The infusion or infusions are generally called tea. It is essential to choose a preparation that makes as much of the herb\’s medicinal properties available as possible.
–Infusions: Pour cold water over the plant and let sit for a day. Drain.
–Tincture: Pour pure alcohol or strong spirits (Slivovitz, vodka) over the chosen part of the plant and leave it in a sealed bottle at room temperature for 1 to 2 weeks. Then strain carefully and drink drop by drop. For a more moderate drink, a small amount of milk may be added.
–Syrup: Pour cold water over fresh or dried herbs, soak, and let sit for one day. The next day, boil the herbs for 15 minutes and squeeze out the herbs. Place the juice over low heat with the sugar and continue to simmer, stirring occasionally, until the juice thickens to the consistency of honey. For every 1 kg of juice, add 1.5 kg of sugar.
– Herbal wine: Chop the herbs and soak them in white wine. Let stand for about 8 days, then strain into another glass.
– Juice: Squeeze the fresh herbs in a fruit press or crush and squeeze through cheesecloth. Use glass or plastic utensils to prevent the juice from reacting with metal.
– Gargle: [Use a watered-down decoction or tincture to gargle.
–Bathing:Add a decoction or a mixture of decoction and tincture to a water bath.
–Ointments:Melt 500 g of fat (Vaseline, lard, coconut oil), add three handfuls of finely chopped herbs, and place on the stove for the required time. The mixture should not burn, so boil the water. Let rest for a day, repeating this process several times. Finally, add beeswax, strain and store in a jar in the refrigerator.
